Bollywood Music On The Rise
Bollywood or the world of Indian cinema has carved its niche on the global map. Indian cinema is not just impressing worldwide audiences with its movies but also its music. Bollywood music has become the latest thing in vogue on the international music scene. With Indian music maestros like A.R. Rehman, taking the Oscars home, this music form is all set to explore a new high.

Unlike western music that follows a set route, Bollywood music is more diverse. This type of music is an umbrella term that comprises of different kinds of music such as classical music, fusion, indo-western, jazz, instrumental, orchestral and the like. The music is a blend of different music forms.

While Bollywood music has its own peculiar nature, what sets it apart from other music forms is the lyrics used in the songs. Unlike western counterparts that emphasize more on meaningful lyrics, Bollywood takes its own route and stresses on lyrics that are easy to memorize. Whether these lyrics imply any meaning or not, is hardly of any value. In fact the biggest musical blockbusters are the ones that use the meaningless lyrics.

The music has an important role to play in Bollywood movies. Richard Corliss has described this music form as 'pop opera' in an article for Time magazine. Considering the pace, and the high voltage drama involved in Indian movies, the music becomes more than inevitable. In fact, it is the music that is used to move the story forward.

The Bollywood music scenario witnessed quite a lull for some time. But of late this music form has witnessed a revolution of sorts. It has imbibed music from different genres, countries and regions to fuse them together and come out with something new. From the 80's era, where the emphasis was more on soulful music, the present generation of music stresses more on foot tapping and catchy numbers.

With Indian music composers and directors experimenting with every aspect of music, Bollywood music can be said to be in an experimental phase as of now. From the tunes to the lyrics to even the choice of singers for the songs, everything is unconventional.

The world of Bollywood music has given birth to some of the biggest musical stars of all times. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Talat Mehmood are some of the legends in the industry. The new age generation of the Indian music fraternity includes musical stalwarts like Sonu Nigam, Vishal - Shekhar, Ismail Darbar, Anu Malik, Pritam and many more.

Considering the experimentation and the revolution, the Indian music scene is going through; it is surely to be at par with its western counterparts. This music form has already found its set followers across the world and is sure to take the globe by the storm in times ahead.
