Must Have Radio Broadcast Equipment
Radio is a great option for you to communicate with others. Ham radio operators have always been the most popular in the bunch. If you want to have a small radio setup of your own, you must have certain basic radio broadcast equipment. This includes microphones, mixer, a radio receiver and of course a radio transmitter.

The microphones are the most basic and the cheapest of all the equipment you would purchase. This article is not going to delve into the working of microphones but you must make sure that they are of broadcast quality. Broadcast quality microphones are specially designed to make sure that the noise and distortion levels are low, all the while the mics are able to maintain high sound sensitivity. They are so capable that they can even pick up the vibrator of a cell phone going off in the studio.

When you purchase microphones, you must also purchase proper mic stands as well as appropriate mic keeping boxes and bags. Since microphones are very sensitive, you must protect them from dust lest it would ruin them by clogging the membrane.

The second important radio broadcasting equipment is a mixer. While most radio transmitters have basic mixing capabilities built onboard, a separate mixer always better. The role of mixer is to take input from multiple sources and convert it single audio stream. Since you would have a number of microphones in the studio, you would like to make sure that only those sounds pass which are required. Each mic comes with a volume control that allows this adjustment.

Then comes the real thing, the radio transmitter. Purchase of radio transmitter is subject to a number of regulations. You might get small transmitter with basic formalities like filling up declarations and form. High power transmitters require more paper. After a particular degree of the power of transmitter, you might even be required to deal with the FCC.

Purchase of transmitters is a complicated task as there are a number of parameters to be considered. You have to decide if you want to purchase shortwave or medium wave transmitter. Other than this, you would also be required to check if you get AM or FM radio. Take it like this, shortwave offers longest range but poorest sound. FM is range restricted but sound quality is good. AM radio broadcast equipment is anywhere between the two.

Finally, you would also need a radio receiver. While it is not a direct part of radio broadcast equipment, you have to check the reception quality. You should tune in and roam around while the radio broadcast equipment is working and something is being aired.

Remember that the single most important aspect of radio broadcast equipment is quality. Never make any compromises when it comes to quality. If you are short of money ask for dealers who sell used equipment but never buy cheap devices.
