It was a star studded night graced by some of the most known names of the music industry. The occasion was that of 36th Annual American Music Awards. The show was hosted by the very famous show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel. The American Music Awards are conducted every year to honor the who's who of the music world right from pop and country western-Latin to rap, rhythm, and rock n' roll.
The TV audiences were able to enjoy the mega event happening at Nokia Theatre, live on ABC. The 2008 AMA's were produced by the very well known Click Clark Productions. The night turned out to be a real big one for Chris Brown who bagged nothing less than three trophies for himself in different categories, beating the all other nominees. Also, Alicia Keys, Kanye West and Rihanna had enough reason to smile with their two trophies each to take home. Annie Lennox was awarded the special Award of Merit by none other than Justin Timberlake for her wonderful solo career. Mariah Carey was awarded for being the only solo artist with the maximum number of hits. What made the night really special for Miley Cyrus was a mini birthday party arranged back stage by her father and close friends including Julianne Hough and Taylor Swift to celebrate her 16th birthday. Before the show was aired, a red carpet live sequence was also aired by ABC. The highlights comprised of exclusive interviews with Jonas Brothers, Ne-Yo, Christina Aguilera, Colbie Caillat, Joe Perry and man others. Also, David Cook's special performance at the red carpet was the much talked about highlight. Miley Cyrus performed Fly on the Wall while Taylor swift added spice to the event with her White Horse. The series of performances also included Christina Augleria's melodies like Gennie in the Bottle, Dirrty, Keeps Getting Better, Beautiful, Fighter and Aint no Other Man. Pink also performed a solo of her very famous song- Sober, live for the audience. The winners of the 2008 AMA's in various categories are as follows: Country- Favorite Male Artist- Brad Paisley, Favorite Female Artist- Taylor Swift, Favorite Band & Duo- Rascal Flatts, Favorite Album Carnival Ride by Carrie Underwood. Pop/ Rock- Favorite Male Artist- Chris Brown, Favorite Female Artist- Rihanna, Favorite Band & Duo- Daughtry, Favorite Album- As I Am by Alicia Keys. Soul, Rhythm and Blues- Favorite Male Artist- Chris Brown, Favorite Female Artist- Rihanna, Favorite Album- As I Am by Alicia Keys. Rap/Hip-Hop- Favorite Male Artist- Kanye West, Favorite Album- Graduation by Kanye West, Favorite Band & Duo- Three 6 Mafia Apart from these categories Enrique Iglesias, Jordin Sparks, Linkin Park, Third Day, and Jonas Brothers were the other winners in different award categories.
